Almost summer

Spring has been warm, so far anyway. The dogs enjoyed of the sunny first of May wholeheartedly, like I did too. I even took some pics, almost hundred, but only one of them is good enough to publish. It’s not very good actually, but here you are, Vera, looking a bit worried for some reason:

Yep, that’s my biggest hobby at the time, don’t have much people around to talk to But there’s no one to arque with either, dogs just agree, always. It’s a bit dull tho, but can’t complane actually.

These Greyhounds of mine are actually quite good listeners and sometimes feels like they really do understand what i’m up to. But during these years we’ve been living together they surely have learned as much about me as i’ve about them, maybe even more. Words don’t mean much to them, the body language is more important. And they sure can decode that one. I’ve been amazed many times about their behavior in certain situations; for example in the mornings when i’m taking off to work; they know it and don’t rush up when i wake up. No, they just open their eyes but keep on sleeping, keeping eye on me, slightly. When i’ve reached to the point to leave i let them out to do their morning “stuff” and they just sleep until that.

The mornings during weekends don’t go like that; dogs sleep until i get my eyes open and immediately that happens they run to me, lick my nose and fussfussfuss around. Why they don’t do that in monday mornings? How can they know the difference? Well, the bodylanguage. They read me like an open book. Except that they can’t read. Or can they? They read me allright.

And they never ever wake me up. Good kids, eh?

Lazy day (week)

And lazy mom, me. Ah, if I just… but no. That’s me I’m afraid. Every time my lazynes seems to go away, it starts to rain, and here we go again. It’s shining at the moment, but just wait. But why worry, dogs are lazy too. Vera is making the boys nuts with her “season”, or what ever. They are howling and mourning. Crying for love. I don’t need that. This whole situation is driving me crazy; Vera has to be kept in a room of her own, so has Leevi. They have to go out in turns, too. Open the door, close the gate, open the gate close the door, don’t let her out now, there is Leevi, or him or them, there is her… and that noice every time Vera moves her little butt. I mean the boys make that noice, not Vera’s butt.

I have one older photo which suits in this post perfectly, if I just manage to find it. Just a moment…

And how sunny it was today, perfect day for a long walk… but what did I do? Cleaned the house, the whole fuckin’ day. Well, life is, as they say.

She’s gone, dear little Gabi. Got hit by a truck and died immediately. A young Doberman-female, lovely Gabi. I’m so sad, can’t do anything, just cry and cry. This has been the worst nightmare, she ran away, was lost three days though was seen several times but ran away again. And then this. She wasn’t my dog, but close though.

Goodbye Gabi, sweet dreams.

Alone (except the dogs)

Now I’m left alone in this big old house, my own though. I must say that this is something I’ve been waiting for, I’m much too old to learn to live with someone, even if it was my own flesh and blood. I’ve lived alone so many years, except the dogs, of course, and that’s how it’s going to be. Let’s see how the dogs are going to react, my daughter is a dog-person if someone is, and dogs just adore her. Mine too. Now that she’s not around anymore, and the dogs are alone while I’m at work, I’m afraid it’s going to be some big waves around here. But nothing I can’t sort out.

Long week

I’ve been away from home the whole week, and it has been a long one! Well, long four days, actually three… from monday-morning to this, thursday-evening. Dogs look so skinny, wonder if they have been eaten at all Soon I’ll be home more, and we are goin’ to have the time of our lifes, I promise.

Fox

There is a fox wandering around here, actually quite near the house. Her (I think it’s a female looking for some handsome he-fox who to play home with) horrifying voice keeps the neighborhood awake and the dogs, they are going nuts too.

Last winter the spirit was entirely the same, and when spring came, we had time to time the privilege to spy on the life of the foxfamily. Pups were so cute, first there was three of them, jumping up and down in the long hay, but later I saw only two. Mom was constantly on her way, and the pups had to cope their own quite long periods. In autumn I bumped into them few times, but then, when winter came, I didn’t see them anymore.

Aww, the mom is back, or maybe one of the pups? Neigbours don’t like them very much; last year my son-in-law released one noisy youngster from a trap, which, I think are illegal. And what would the owner of the trap do with that creature? Shoot? Make a foxmuff to mrs?

Another winterday

It’s still cold, dogs don’t enjoy staying outside for very long time, me neither. Last night Mortti and Jeeves thought they saw something in the field nearby. I couldn’t see a thing, no matter how I gazed and tried to see through the darkness. It was cold like hell and if there was someone’s dog or cat out there, it sure wasn’t enjoying either, poor thing.

Nowadays the dogs in Finland run off their homes for some unknown reason, every single day several dogs are reported missing and I can imagine the worry and grief their owners are going through. That’s the most horrible way to loose a pet, not knowing what’s happened, is he dead or maybe lying somewhere injured. I think I would not be able to stop searching, ever, if that happens to me.

It was pretty close once; Leevi the Tibetan was quite young, not even a year, when he suddenly got scared of something in the forest, ran off to a street and got hit by a car. He was gone just half an hour, and luckily the couple who drove the car stopped, and stayed with him, as he was lying on the street. The couple was very helpful; they drove us to the vet and didn’t want to hear a word about me paying anything for the drive or the possible dents in the car. Actually none of us even looked the car, maybe there was something, who knows. Leevi was examined and x-rayed by the vet, nothing was broken.Those about thirty minutes he was gone were the longest in my whole life, that’s how it felt anyway.

But to loose your dog for good in a way like that, he just runs away and you never see him again, that’s my worst nightmare.

So, for all of you who have lost your pet in this tragical way, never letting to know what really had happened, and for those who are looking their lost pets at this right moment, my warm thoughts are with you.

Cold !

Now, when winter should be almost over, seems like it’s just going to begin. Wind is hard, it’s freezing cold outside. This winter has been the most warm in several years, snowed just few times and the next day it’s all gone. Dogs just love the snow, Mortti likes to dive in to the snowbank, swims in there like a freaking weasel. What’s funny, the hairy-ones, Tibetans, don’t like it that much. Lasse, the oldest, doesn’t go outside at all if it’s not absolutely necessary. Old bones get stiff and acheing and it’s so nice to warm them by the fireside.

For the first time in my whole life I must say I miss the summer, the sun. Well, guess Lasse isn’t the only oldster in here.
